Sorry for the Mess Photo Update
“Brain Fog” Joe Geyer 2021
This week, for my thesis project Sorry for the Mess, I wanted to explore the idea of the fogginess of the brain that many people with ADHD and Depression experience. Often times, those of us who struggle with mental illnesses or neurodivergence, we get a symptom called brain fog. It feels like you are walking through a wall of fog and you end up wandering around lost. When this happens, for us, it makes it hard to concentrate and focus. And the harder you push to make it make sense, the worse that it gets. People without mental illnesses can also experience this, but for them it is often brought on by sicknesses like Covid or the Flu.
For this shot, I got my inspiration from taking a shower of all things. My bathroom doesn’t have a vent fan and even when you open the window, the room fills with steam. While this may not be good for my walls, it was great for my creative brain. As I was taking my shower, I watched the fog swirl through the light of the window and this idea started to formulate. The nudity within the image was an important metaphor for being stripped down to our minds and how they work. The darker tones were used to emphasis the fog in the bathroom against the light of the window.
Below are a few other the other images that didn’t make the cut this week.
