Going back to Older Work

It’s always an interesting feeling to go back through older photos you haven’t touched in years. I did that yesterday while backing up older files. I was looking through a folder of older photos while waiting for the files to transfer and I ended up coming across this image.

Now, on my first go around of editing these photos in 2015, I had not interest in this photo. It didn’t speak to me at all. Now, 7 years later, this image made me stop in my tracks. There is just something about the fragile futility of a rope swing frozen into the lake. The red/orange of the rope against the dark blue of the ice and water. And the reflection doubling the frustration of not being able to get the rope out of the water. So of course, I had to go and actually edit and process the image.

But this is a great reminder for fine art photographers to go back and take a look at older work. Some times something that didn’t speak to you before will now take on a new meaning!
