Lemon Meringue Pie
Lemon Meringue Pie created by Matthew Bushey
It’s always a great thing having a partner that loves to cook and bake and experiment in the kitchen. Always getting to try new food. But for me, it is doubly so. Not only do I get to try new food, I also getting to explore the world of food photography. My partner Matthew has always loved food and making it for the people he loves. But it took the pandemic (and me as a partner who wanted to try new photography things) to push him to create gorgeous plates of food made to be photographed. And he is always pushing himself to make better, more delicious, more stylized food.
Yesterday, he spent the day making a Lemon Meringue Pie. Much of the day was spent researching various techniques on how to get the pie crust to the perfect thickness he wanted, how to balance the tartness of the curd with the sweet of the meringue, and practicing his piping so that everything looked and tasted amazing. And I have to say that this pie was my favorite subject for food to photograph so far.
I spent almost 2 hours photographing this pie, trying varying light and aesthetic choices and ended up taking over 130 images. So far, this is the most fun I have had photographing food yet, and att is there the whole time helping style and getting me to try new angles to get the best shots. Now, my stomach is rumbling for some more pie, so Im going to go enjoy another slice. Y’all enjoy the full photos of the pie below.
