Sorry for the Mess

Sorry for the Mess

The best way I can describe what having a mental illness is like is the idea of wet socks in dry shoes. From the outside, everything looks normal, but underneath, your socks are wet. They have always been wet. And you have no idea what normal even is.

Explaining to someone what having a mental illness is like, using only words, is nearly impossible. This project grew out of the life long frustration I have had trying to do exactly that daunting task. So I began creating images that gave an authentic and honest view of what mental illness is like. From rooms absolutely destroyed with mess to images of me attacking myself, Sorry for the Mess gives an unflinching look at how mental illness affects those that have it, their environment, and the people they interact with. Created out of frustration but tackled with authenticity, humor, and artistry, Sorry for the Mess shows both the struggles and the triumphs of living with mental illness everyday.
